Flesje gekregen van Tomhendriksen en thuis gedronken. Diep donkerbruin bier met weinig beige schuim. Aroma van gebrande mout en rook. De smaak is moutig, chocolade-achtig en rokerig. Nasmaak is is licht hoppig.

Almost black with dark creamy head. Aroma and flavour have a surprising strong level of fresh hop bitterness. It slightly overpowers the roasted malt flavour. Subdued coffee and charcoal in the aftertaste.

Fles 33cl thuis. Roasted malts, droog, chocolade, bitter, citrustonen, wat tropisch fruittonen, redelijk zacht, beetje noot, redelijk vol van smaak, wat romig. Prima. (3-3-2020).

Danish stout intended as a ‘classic’ American double stout, thanks Craftmember for sharing. Lacing, pale greyish beige, mousy, medium thick head, very dark chestnut brown robe, hazy, dark enough to have a generally black appearance. Aroma of black coffee, bitter chocolate, beef stock, bayleaf, cigar tobacco, hard caramel, black peppercorns, wormwood. Dry onset, very restrained in sweetness, mild beef stock-like umami, softish carb, creamy and slick mouthfeel, quite full for this ABV; toasted-nutty, toasted-bready and eventually roasted-chicory malt body, more bitter than sweet with pronounced wormwoody, peppery hop bitterness in the end, where the flavours come together nicely; the alcohol remains well-hidden. Very decent ‘classically’ styled double stout indeed, clearly referring back to a time when there was indeed something like an American, hoppier and stronger interpretation of dry stout, with a roasty-bitter character – before sweet, extravagant variations on the imperial stout theme took over. It is good to come across something like this every now and then.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Jumbo Culemborg. Black with a dense beige head. Coffee and chocolate aroma with some hops as well. Bitter taste with a dry bitter hopfinish. Rather unexpectedly tasty.

Bottle. Deep dark brown color. Roast, coffee and toffee in the flavor. Malty sweet. Grassy hops. Just a hint of citrus. Not bad.
