Tap @MBCC2017, Red Session. Nearly black, small beige head. Woody, caramely aroma. Similar flavour with some fruity sweetness.

Sampled @ Mikkeller Beer Celebration 2017, Red Session. Dunkel orange braunes Bier. Geruch nach dunklen Früchten, Karamell, hefig fruchtig. Geschmack nach reifen Früchten, Karamell Obst, kräftig würzig.

Draft. A black beer with a lazing dark brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, caramel, and bread. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, chocolate, and bread, leading to a bitter finish.

From tap. Pours pitch black with a small brown head. Aroma is roasted dark malty. Slight herbal. Dry, roasted and breadish. Roasted. Lingering dark malty. Linhering roasted malty finish.

Dark ebony with a good clarity on the edges revealing deep maroon-magenta highlights. Tan head is small but well-retained.
Tell-tale Oxbow house character is strong in the nose and shows a lovely chalky-minerality that is overarching here. Prunes and vanilla mix with soft cocoa and light caramel. As expected from the masters, there’s no thick fudge or brash roast/alcohol or any aggressivity, really. Kind of along the lines of a Belgian Royal stout, though probably not as rich and malty as those. Even notes of plum, raisin, light roast, dark chocolate and vanilla linger with no alcohol or flaw.
Soft and supple in the mouth despite the overall maltiness being somewhat lower than most in the style. It’s not thin, however, and there’s plenty of chocolate and prune as it warms with vanilla and light caramel, as well. Tons of minerality and lingering fruitiness with light-to-moderate roast providing more depth. Clean and free from booziness. Definitely very atypical for an Imperial Stout, but it’s free from the bombast that ruins most examples of this style for me.
