Perhaps it was a way to motivate us into producing beer, or maybe it was a desperate hint at a Birthday gift. Either way, David Walker cornered us one day and asked for a sour cherry fermented beer for his 50th birthday. Nothing more was said, but we took note and the opportunity to create something new. On the occasion of David’s golden jubilee, we celebrate his mid-life mortality check with Walker’s Krieky Bones! This beer begins its life as a Flanders Red style beer aged eight months in a 2200 gallon French Oak Foeder, sour cherries were added and allowed a secondary fermentation. The aroma is of cherry pie complete with flavors of piecrust and spicy notes. Vienna malt notes give way to assertive acidity and firm carbonation to finish. A santé and happy 50th birthday David!

Beer #16 of my 10,00th Beer Milestone Celebration! Batch No 009, Bottled: 29-June-2007? (or 2017) Super clear and beautiful deep amber and ruby coloured body with a vermillion glow and a ultra-thin, basically non-existant off-white head that doesn't really show any movement at all. Aroma of super tart, funky, deep cranberries and especially cherry notes with a dose of bretty and lactobilly funk along with some spontaneous fermentation notes and finishing with some candy in the nose - very nice and incredibly aromatic. Light-bodied; Super thin and tart cranberry and fresh cherry flavours dominate here with a very light maltiness that barely holds up the fruits and sugars with a slight citrusey twang, but seemingly only because the cherries are so tart and finishing with a dash of dry grass and hibiscus floral notes - very nice and dry with a touch of oak on the end and some complexities. Aftertaste shows some very strong tart fruity elements with a lot of the cranberry and cherry flavours and some complex oaky and cedar notes at the tail end without much else, aside from a light sweetness from the fruits as well. Overall, this is a very tart and fruit-forward beer with a nice sour quality and some spontaneous fermentation notes, but more from the fruits and tartness emerge with a light sweetness balancing this throughout with very little malts. Overall, a great beer to try and well worth holding onto for a while, but not complex as some other belgians of course and while very easy-drinking the complexity here was pretty minimal (but it did exist). I sampled this 37,5 cL corked and caged bottle as Beer #16 [of 21 - 10 (for 10,000) of Each side of the 10,000 Beer Milestone and the 10,000th itself!] of my 10,000th Beer Milestone, purchased from Total Wine in Manassas, Virginia on 31-January-2018 for US$12,59 bottled on 29-June-2007 (or 2017?, which makes more sense) and sampled at my house here in Washington on 07-June-2023.

(Bottle, batch #4, 6.3%) Reddish amber colour with brief, frothy, tan head. Fruity, sourish nose with notes of sour cherries, almonds, vanilla, oak wood and vinegar. Fruity, tart taste with sour cherries, blood orange, pink grapefruit, vinegar, oak wood, almonds, vanilla and a dry and tart finish. Medium body, dry. Tart, fresh and really tasty. Great beer!

Bottle picked up from (forgot where?) and consumed at home Thursday 9th June 2022, we just had Pasta Shells Stuffed with Salmon and Cream Cheese, and was listening to Steve Lamaq and his Round Table Show on 6 Music. This pours a bronze, actually, it's more amber, the head which was clean and white didn't last very long, there is sediment in suspension. The nose suggests a sourness to come with cherry (subtle) and some Balsamic. Fruity, sharp, and very zappy, bitter sour cherries really waken the tastebuds up, The carbonation comes through more in the mouth than in the appearance. There is a little woodiness also but it is the cherries that are stealing the show and it really feels like there is a lot in this. The finish is dry and lengthy.

Bottle. A- Cherry, oak. A- Reddish brown color, hazy liquid, off white head. T- Cherry, mild basalmic, oak, subtle vanilla, subtle tartness, slightly acidic. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, slightly tart finish. O- At 4 years old I expected more funky notes. There was a lot of soft cherry influences but not as complex as I thought it should be. Very good but maybe it would've been better fresh.

375ml bottle [6.2% abv]. Minimally cloudy, ruby, minimally brown-ish colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, pink-ish, off-white head. Sweet-ish, fruity, mellow malty, minimally funky yeasty aroma, notes of cherry, cherry juice, a touch of morelly, cherry kernels. Taste is mildly tart, mildly funky, fruity and mellow malty, notes of cherry, cherry juice, a touch of sherbet, morello, cherry kernels. Watery texture, minimally astringent palate, medium, mildly prickly, foamy carbonation. Quite simple, monotonous, restricted, somehow mainstreamed, non-offensive, agreeable - a bit boring and underwhelming.

Bottled 06/29/17. Nice pop, pours pinkish orange, with a dense white head. Smells tart, vinous, plenty of cherry. Definitely some acidity in the throat, but nicely soft flavours. Cherries, peach, some light tannins. Very nice balance, light and refreshing.
