Perhaps it was a way to motivate us into producing beer, or maybe it was a desperate hint at a Birthday gift. Either way, David Walker cornered us one day and asked for a sour cherry fermented beer for his 50th birthday. Nothing more was said, but we took note and the opportunity to create something new. On the occasion of David’s golden jubilee, we celebrate his mid-life mortality check with Walker’s Krieky Bones! This beer begins its life as a Flanders Red style beer aged eight months in a 2200 gallon French Oak Foeder, sour cherries were added and allowed a secondary fermentation. The aroma is of cherry pie complete with flavors of piecrust and spicy notes. Vienna malt notes give way to assertive acidity and firm carbonation to finish. A santé and happy 50th birthday David!

On tap at Goblet Zagreb. Red coloured, medium sized pinkish head, cherries and light fruits in the nose. Vinous cherry taste with notes of marzipan and soft sourish finish. Refreshing and nice one.

Bottle 37,5 cl. Pours an almost clear, orangey amber with a tiny, off-white head. Lactic tart aroma with a cherry touch. Medium body, an odd coconut flavor seems to dominate with cherry being less prominent. And it's all atop a massive sourness that is somewhat overwhelming. 130520

375 ml bottle into tulip glass; Batch 004, bottled on 6/19/2017. Pours fairly crystal clear deep orange/copper/light reddish color, with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big juicy/tart/tangy red cherries, fruit skin/pits, lemon, lime, peach, plum, pear, apricot, melon, red/green apple, red grape/wine, oak, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, and white bread; with lighter notes of peppercorn, leathery/musty/lacto funk, red wine vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Fantastic aromas with awesome balance and complexity of cherries, fruity/funky/acidic/spicy yeast, oak barrels, and pale/wheat malt notes; with big strength. Taste of huge juicy/tart/tangy red cherries, fruit skin/pits, lemon, lime, peach, plum, pear, apricot, melon, red/green apple, red grape/wine, oak, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, and white bread; with lighter notes of peppercorn, leathery/musty/lacto funk, red wine vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tart/sourness, fruit tang, and yeast/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of sour/tart/tangy red cherries, fruit skin/pits, lemon, lime, peach, plum, pear, apricot, melon, red/green apple, red grape/wine, oak, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread, light pepper/musty/lacto funk/vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of cherries, fruity/funky/acidic/spicy yeast, oak barrels, and pale/wheat malt flavors; with a fantastic malt/tart/sourness, tangy fruit, and yeast/oak spiciness balance; with zero puckering/astringent flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp finishing. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering tart/sourness, tangy fruit, and carbonation. Medium-plus carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, and acidic/tangy/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is fantastic. Zero warming alcohol for 6.3%. Overall this is an amazing fruited sour/wild ale. All around amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of cherries, fruity/funky/acidic/spicy yeast, oak barrels, and pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth, easy, and fairly crisp to drink with the mellowly acidic/tangy/tannic/drying finish; not overly lactic. Amazing balance of super juicy/jammy cherries, and Brett/Bacteria complexity; with great oak presence and pale/wheat malts against acidity. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp drying. A highly amazing offering, and top tier style example. Aged wonderfully on the wild complexity.

Courtesy of Sergey, corked bottle, batch 003, bottled 09/26/16, 2.5 years old
Cloudy amber colour, large bubbles. Light cherry aroma, hint to the sourness. Dry mouthfeel, soft; it has the nice funky character of Lambics, with moderate juice touch, moderate acidity, light glue.
Actually, very good.
