Perhaps it was a way to motivate us into producing beer, or maybe it was a desperate hint at a Birthday gift. Either way, David Walker cornered us one day and asked for a sour cherry fermented beer for his 50th birthday. Nothing more was said, but we took note and the opportunity to create something new. On the occasion of David’s golden jubilee, we celebrate his mid-life mortality check with Walker’s Krieky Bones! This beer begins its life as a Flanders Red style beer aged eight months in a 2200 gallon French Oak Foeder, sour cherries were added and allowed a secondary fermentation. The aroma is of cherry pie complete with flavors of piecrust and spicy notes. Vienna malt notes give way to assertive acidity and firm carbonation to finish. A santé and happy 50th birthday David!

375 c&c from Craft Shack. Pours rather cherry enhanced copper color with a tranisent head. Aroma of moderate sour cherry with something floral/herbal as well. Med body or so. Flavor is tart/sour cherry with some wood astringency. The acidity is moderate, and the tart/sour is a bit above moderate. Reminds of the good ol’ days when sours were just getting started in the US. Krieky it is.

Hazy, pinkish, thin head. Has a nice cherry aroma, a touch of acetic, and a little brett, and a fair bit of woodiness. Some acetic up front, but not too harsh, as it gets mellowed by fruit sugars. The cherry is nice, and the balance is generally good. Nothing too innovative, but it’s a nice brew, and I could drink a fair bit of it.

375mL bottle, pours a cloudy reddish amber with a small white head. Aroma is wonderfully funky, with tart cherries, brett funk, and a little oak. Flavour follows suit, with oak, tart cherries and brett funk. Complex, funky, fruity and oak. Wonderfully balanced, with a great balance of fruit and funk. Excellent.

Tap into snifter showing well filtered light red with sparse white foam. The nose shows sweet and tart notes of cherries. The palate is medium bodied and moderately carbonated. Flavors of tart cherries with sweet cherries and oak in the background. Moderately tart and dry throughout, this is fantastic.
