Bottle from Bodnant Welsh Food. Aroma has tart berries, creamy chocolate and malts. Dark and glossy. Thick foamy beige head. Flavourwise it's less punchy than the aroma. Coffee and dark chocolate. Tangy berries. Creamy finish. Light. Thin. Soft-fizzy carbonation... very lively. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. Pleasant.

Bottle. Color: Almost black, creamy light brown head. Aroma: Dark roasted malt, subtle notes of coffee. Taste: Creamy, dark roasted malt, some coffee and dark chocolate. Earthy. Over medium body, below average carbonation. Over moderate bitterness, moderate sweetness. Dry-ish finish. Nice traditional British Stout.

Cask at the Ship and Castle, Aberystwyth. Poured a mostly clear dark brown colour with a short-lived, frothy light tan head. The aroma is roasted malt, light chocolate. The flavour is moderate to light sweet, with a smooth, somewhat light, roasty malt, earthy, liqourice bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation.

Cask at Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a small cream head and a little lacing. Not much of an aroma – just some hints of dried fruit. In the mouth it is quite bitter but with some underlying sweetness and a creamy texture. Flavour has roast malts, chocolate and hints of fruit cake. After a while, some bitter coffee grounds come through plus traces of dark fruits and oats. Finish is a little sticky. This is quite nice.
