Lying in the shadow of Marcle Ridge is Mortimer's Orchard. The rich soil and micro-climate of the Herefordshire village of Much Marcle provides the perfect conditions for apple trees to flourish. Over the years our farmers have discovered which apple varieties produce the best juice for making our cider.

Keg at the Royal Standard of England, Forty Green, 28/08/15. Clear golden blonde with a moderate off White covering of bubbles. Nose is sweet apple, straw, light honey. Taste comprises apple pulp, toasted sugar, corn, faint smoke, straw. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok if a little sweet.

On keg @ the Last Drop, Edinburgh. This cider had quite ripe, almost stewed apples, a well balanced palate and a nice tangy finish.

Draft @ Brewhouse & Kitchen Islington, Islington EC1. Pours a clear golden color with a small white head. Has a fruity spicy apple aroma. Fruity slightly sweetish apple flavor with some tartness. Has a fruity spicy sweetish apple finish.

Keg at Scarborough Arms, Leeds. Pour clear gold, no head. High carbonation. Aromas of stewed apples. Taste is medium dry. Sweet sticky finish. OK.

Draught @ Pie & Ale, Manchester. A new Westons eh. Isn’t this exciting. I’m assuming from the logo and description on the glass this is marketed to the more affluent cider drinker, the Hyacinth Bucket to Weston’s 3litre-bottle Onslo cider ’GL’. It’s a pleasant drink, lightly sparkling, lightly flavoured, lightly coloured, lightly everything really. And it went well with my pie too. Bit too middle-of-the-road but drinkable nonetheless.
