Bottle. Brownish red with a small white head. Caramel biscuit, hints of whiskey, and lots of oxidation. Medium body. Too sweet.

Draught @ Pikkulintu, Helsinki
Pours dark reddish brown with a smooth head. Aroma of malts, dark ripe fruits, berries, syrup and hops. Taste is malty, hoppy and caramely with notes of dark ripe fruits, syrup and hints of berries. Finish is sweetish, hoppy and malty with hints of syrup and fruits. Quite balanced barley wine. Perhaps a tad better than the barrel aged version.

Draught @ Olutravintola Pikkulintu
Vintage 2012, served quite cold
Aroma is somewhat light and sweet with caramel, toffee and distant berry notes. Flavour has heavy malty notes, lots of biscuits, some caramel and toffee. Also raisins, licorica and some brown sugar. Nicely balanced and not too sweet, reminds me of some american BWs. Definitely better than the barrell version. Like that, this one also lacks Plevna house aroma.

Somewhat woody with ripe fruits. Also some pleasant licorice tones. This has now more harsh malty tones than the one I had in Pikkulintu.

10/1/2012. Draught @ Pikkulintu, 0.3l. Color red and brown. Aroma and flavor had malts and hops and some sweetness. There was not too much sweetness but unfortunately taste was too light and watery. 11/10/2013. Tap at Pikkulintu, Helsinki. Vintage 2012. Colour is reddish dark brown with very small white head. Aromas and flavours: Fruits, raisins, some sweetness, hints of alcohol and malts. Getting better but alcohol still is dominating. Points are based on this rating.

(Draught at Pikkulintu, 20120929) The beer poured deep reddish brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had malts, molasses, hops and sweetness. Palate was full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, molasses, hops, mildly roasted malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty and bitter. Very balanced beer with only a little bit of sweetness. Better than the barrel aged version.
