Bottle from O’Brien’s, Athlone [260317]
Dark chestnut brown, beige head, light lacing
Aroma of soft dark fruits, some orange, hint of dark malt
Taste of mellow dark malts, getting orange, soft dark chocolate, slight toffee...now getting some roast, fairly bitter hops. Unusual experimental hops in here - they are quite orangey - I like these hops. The beer comes across to me more as a porter/dunkel hybrid
Palate - Soft carb, medium body. Finish has more roasted malts, dark chocolate, soft bitter linger.
Overall - One of the best beers I’ve had from this brewery. I’d like to see a black IPA brewed with these hops
