A porter in the middle of summer? You’re mad, Polly’s!
Once again proving our theory that beer is for all seasons, we wanted to let our dark beer fans know that they aren’t excluded from the summer party here at Polly’s HQ. Following in the same vein as our other deviations away from our traditional pale and hoppy path, we’ve stripped things back to the basics here with Built to Weather.
A porter as bold and robust as they come, this is a beer that firmly allows the grist bill to do the talking, and it’s singing on this beer. Carafa Special, Chocolate, Crystal Dark, Milled Brown and Milled Double Roast Crystal made up an awesome combination of special malts that bring smooth roasted coffee notes, backed up with dark chocolate, and a hint of caramel before a sprinkling of Polly’s favourite Chinook completes the back to basics vibe with a whisper of hoppy bitterness.

On tap at Bryggerifestivalen. 5.3% ABV. An almost clear, brown beer with a dense dark beige head. Nice lacing. The aroma is quite roasted, with some burnt notes and chocolate and a vague hint of coffee and oats. It's medium to full-bodied, nicely carbonated and dry, feeling quite refreshing. Roasted malts dominates the flavor too, with the same additional dark malt flavors of chocolate, coffee, oats and burnt malts. Lasting finish. A decent brew, pleasant. 240801

Draught, 5.3 % abv, at Bryggerifestivalen 2024, kindly shared by Bryne. Near black in the glass, covering off-white head, clingy lacing. Inviting smell of roasted dark malts, with a touch of grainy chocolate. Malt-forward taste of dark bread and chocolate. Roasted malty ending notes. Easy drinking porter. (Trondheim, 01.08.2024).

Black beer, solid tan head. Good malty aroma. Flavour is that of a fairly straightforward porter. Malty, some mellow hoppiness, a bit of chocolate, good toasty quality to it. Not especially notable, but a very drinkable porter with a decent body.
