A rich, malty beer with origins in the Catholic abbeys of Belgium, dubbels showcase fruity caramelized malts and spicy yeast notes. Today, only ten Trappist abbeys--following the 48th chapter of the Rule of St. Benedict, 'for then are the monks in truth, if they live by the work of their hands'--continue this ancient tradition, but even though we're not doing it within the walls of a monastery, we're determined to help the monks spread the good word. Our Dumaguete Dubbel is brewed with locally produced muscovado sugar added to imported specialty Belgian malts and continental European hops. The end result presents hints of dried cherries and dates, spiced toffee, and rum raisin.

Bottle @ Saxo tasting. Hazy amber with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, dark sugar and light bretty. Flavor is quite sweet and light acidic. Dry and light acidic finish. Much too high carbonation. The brett infection works well in the aroma. 170617
