Pours nice clear golden, nice white foam that leaves decent lacings. Nose is quite fruity, not soft, more like cherries and bit more astringent fruits. Yes, maybe raspberry, citric one :D Taste has some soft bitterness and herbal character, typical for German hops is also there. Quite smooth drinking, better than many other German style IPA’s I have had.

DØE. Clear golden with a small white head. Aroma is sweet, malty and moderate hoppy - grass and citrus. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and moderate bitter finish. 190517

Draft. A hazy golden beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma has notes of lemons, hay and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, hay, and minerals, leading to a bitter finish.

Bottle pour into shaker pint glass. Appearance is hazy light orange with trace sparkle, two-finger foamy white head with fair retention and decent soapy lacing. Aroma is cracker, herbs, vaguely metallic, European hops. Taste is yeasty metallic, cracker, lightly bitter. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with average carbonation, cracker and lightly bitter finish. Overall, this lives up to what it says it is--a German take on the IPA, but that’s not really an improvement on the style. OK.

Brilliantly clear deep golden color with a huge rocky white head that persists while leaving stickies on the side of the glass. Rich bready crackery pilsner malt with lots of earthy spicy floral hops and hints of light fruit. Interesting style mash up, I thought it was pretty good.

So I guess Sierra Nevada’s willing to call any damn thing an IPA these days. Whatever--I guess they’ve earned the right. But still, as a name, German Style IPA is only about 50 percent accurate. It’s German, sure, but more a mildly hoppy lager than anything approaching an India Pale. Crisp lager yeastiness, full of bread and apple and berry, meets up with a modest Euro-hop background, floral and slightly bitter. Nice feel, smooth and easygoing, and the aroma offers up a little bit of apple juice sweetness. (No hops, however.) But I feel like I should knock a point off somewhere just for how casually this beer assumes IPA-dom. It’s not. Fruitier than their Peach IPA, though.
