This Teutonic take on the traditional IPA features spicy German grown hops and an expressive Kolsch yeast. The result is a golden beer with a moderate bitterness and an intensely fruity aroma reminiscent of raspberry and lemon peel. Prost!

Bottle. Mostly clear yellow with a generous white head. The aroma is fruity with some sweet malt and spicy hops. The flavor is bitter and crisp. In some ways more like a Kölsch than an IPA but it’s a decent beer.

Poured from bottle dated 12/15/16 light clear golden orange with a fizzy white head. Aromas of lager yeast floral notes light fruit and bready malt. Taste is nice mild fruit media malt and floral citrusy hop notes. --- Beer merged from original tick of German IPA on 13 Feb 2017 at 17:30 - Score: 7

Pour is a clear golden with a large white head. Aroma is full of a spicy old world hop with some nice ester from the yeast. Flavor is a spicy, melon and lemon hop with some pils like bready malt to dry things out. Probably one of the better showcases of German hops used in an IPA. Very hop forward but also a nice helles or pils malt to balance things out.

Bottle: Clear, bright gold with a frothy white head. Grains, honey, citrus aroma. Taste is sweet, yeasty, lemon-orange with a nice, slightly spicy/grassy bitter. A great combination of Kolsch and IPA.....Excellent.

12 oz bottle from the IPA mix pack. Aroma is grassy German hops, berry, cracker. Pours hazy orange with a large off-white head with excellent retention and curtains of lace. Taste is medium bitter with citrus, grass and herbal hop flavors. It’s like a cross between a craft German-style pilsner and an American IPA. Very tasty.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a clear orange color with a medium white head. A light lemon and toast nose. The flavor is zesty citrus, lemons, light pepper, some toasted malts. Very smooth. Quite flavorful and still light. Zesty. Nice.

It just seemed so incongruous for a California-based brewery to offer a German IPA that I had to try it. Even though it is brewed in North Carolina. Still, it makes no sense whatsoever. Bottle at Crafty Beer Guys. Clear golden color. Light hay aroma. Taste is light fruit. Very, very boring. Exactly on style.

12 ounce bottle from State Line. Hazy pale amber, large foamy white head, good retention. Aroma of Noble hops, pale malt. The taste is citrus, berry, Noble hop, grass, pale malt. Medium bodied, very high carbonation.

Bottle from a mixed 12 pack at a local grocery. Pours translucent gold with a white head. Aroma is lemony, maybe even lightly zesty. Could be a touch of spice. Med body. Flavor is somewhat lemon zest, and there is some spice. Malt is rather bready. Only lightly bitter, but enough to work for me. In some ways it makes me think of a strongly hopped kellerweis. Which may not make much sense, but then that’s my brain on beer. :)
