BIG LIGHTNING is a Belgian IPA brewed in collaboration with hop masters Yakima Chief Hops from the Pacific Northwest.

For this beer we use a pale, oaty grist to allow the hops to shine, and ferment it with Bastogne yeast (which we used for our much-loved Belgian Pale Ale, LIL’ LIGHTNING). For BIG LIGHTNING the green-fingered hop wizards brought along their wares to add Ahtanum® and Centennial in the whirlpool, followed by a dry-hop of Idaho 7® and more Centennial. Lush!

BIG LIGHTNING strikes nice.

Can from lowcostbeer.com, consumed past BBE. Pours a hazy gold with big white foamy head which takes a while to settle. Aroma of citrus peel, yeast, sweet floral notes. Taste of tangy candied peel, spice, earthiness, pillowy malt, pine resin and some grapefruit light relief. Medium+ bodied, fine to prickly carbonation which works well here. I enjoyed this one, nice complexity, lovely mouthfeel. More of a sipper than expected for 6% but a good one to savour.
