12oz can from Tavour. Dark amber pour, fizzy head, lasting fine ring of foam. Savory aroma, white pepper, coriander. Taste begins with some mild sour ness reminiscent of rye, savory, spicy, orange peel. After the initial burst it's quite a mellow beer.

My second attempt at a rating after the site failed to accept the first. Briefly, a 12 oz can from Half Time in NY state. Opened and poured into a Chimay glass. The appearance is much like La Trappe Quadrupel, caramel brown in color with a wispy ring of foam around the rim around the glass. The smell is decent. Grain, candi sugar and some earthiness. The taste, well, significantly off for me. Malt, earth, bread, paper and a touch of ripe fruit. A quadrupel I cannot cozy up to. Bland.

Pour is a murky brown with a large white head. Aroma is cherry with sweet caramel malt and brown sugar. Flavor is more molasses with almost a dry chicory. Finish is dry with a bit of warming alcohol. Decent Quad but also nothing outstanding like some from Belgium. Worth a try and I wish more brewers would attempt this style.

Can from Tavour. Pours clear mahogany with a tan head that left rather quickly. Aroma is caramel/cherry. Near full bodied. Not dry/not sticky. Flavor is caramel/cherry with a light Belgian yeast/spice aspect. Banana not here for me. And then it is in the end of a quaff. Heat isn't a problem. Took a long time for me to get smoke, but it's there. Maybe this is complex stuff.
