This original dark beer has soft malt notes of coffee and chocolate that combine with a pleasant light hoppiness to create a rich, full tasting Old Ale of times gone by.

(Cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 26 Nov 2016) Almost black colour, with notes of ruby, creamy beige head. Malty, roasted nose with caramel, dark fruit, raisins and chocolate. Malty, slightly fruity taste with notes of caramel, chocolate, dried fruit, coffee and a gentle roasty bitterness. Medium body, rounded mouthfeel. A touch of sweetness. Well balanced and tasty. Nice one.

Cask at spoons Eastbourne. Started as quite tobaccoy, rough but got smoother and smoother with caramrk tones and becoming light on the palate as sweeter. Very good. (3/3/2017) ---- Pin keg at Dad's. It is as described above a very good ale that packs in so much punch for its abv. No noted but 3.9 to 3.8.

Cask at WHOAF 2015. It pours near black with a thick, off-white head. The nose is toasty, earthy roast, dark fruits, jammy berry, burnt fruit cake and a hint of tobacco smoke. The taste is rich, earthy roast, wood, leather, some bitterness, some charred wood, dirt, old leather sofa, firm bitterness and some underlying dried fruits/fruit cake with a dry, woody finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Perhaps a touch woody, but it does have a good depth of flavour. A very respectable old ale.
