Cask at the Bird in Hand, Knowl Hill. Reddish chestnut with a scummy head; aroma of drinking chocolate; soft, silky, sweet chocolately taste; then a dry finish with a robust ground coffee bitterness and some lingering fruit. Full of flavour.

Lots of dark fruits good more than solid malt hoppy balanced finish.Good beer. On hottest day of the year who would have thought that an old ale would be the best beer of the day.

On cask @ the Haymarket Bar, Edinburgh. Pours dark amber going into brown with a nice head. The nose has distinct chocolate biscuits with a hint of ginger. The taste has more of the chocolate and ginger biscuit thing. The palate is medium bodied with a big crunchy texture and a balanced finish. Overall, my first beer from this brewery and I’m pretty impressed.

Cask at The Black Friar. Pours darkly ruddy/orange with a creamy beige head. Malt aroma - seems to suggest chocolate. Med body, almost. Flavor seems to be malty with light chocolate and hints of coffee.
