650ml bottle from Beermerchants

Pours pitch black with a tiny head. Aroma of roasty malts, licorice, hints of syrup, maple, milk chocolate and licorice. Taste is smooth, slightly roasty and lactic with some milk chocolate, licorice, syrup, caramel, vanilla and wood. Finish is smooth, sweetish and heavy with some roastiness, lactic notes and licorice. Quite heavy. Okay.

Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. Very dark brown. Thin, lasting, tan head. Leggy and viscous. Looks boss. After that, it comes across very sugary sweet, followed by a big, hop oil bitterness, with not a lot of middle ground. It’s not entirely cohesive. I’m possibly missing something, but I don’t get the high rates given to this so far.

Bomber @ 12th Shrewsbury Bottle Share, April 15, courtesy of Paolo! Pours black with thin tan head. Noticeable sweet maple / vanilla elements merging with a decent roasted malt backbone. Quite enjoyable, although my memory is fairly hazy at this stage!

28th April 2015: 660ml bottle at a Shrewsbury Bottle Exchange Group meeting. Nice, I usually like sweeter brews and this hit the spot. Very black body with a tanned head sat proudly on top. Malts rule the aroma and taste with both dark chocolate and vanilla featuring strongly. The hops do a good job, preventing the brew being sickly but not stopping it being rich and smooth on the palate. Enjoyed this.
