On cask at the Guildford Arms. Appearance - close to opaque black but with some toffee shades around the edges. Nose - mocha notes. Hint of the citrus but no more. Taste - dark chocolate and honeycomb. Like a dark chocolate Crunchie Bar if there is such a thing. A touch of liquorice on the finish. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a nice balanced finish. Overall - isnβt this a Black ipa? Nice beer but is this how a hop trial normally goes?

Cask at The Southern. Pours clear dark ruby brown, thin beige head. Aromas of chocolate, berries. Taste is where the simcoe hits - bit bitter aftertaste. Looks and smells like a mild, but a fair whack of bitterness. Confusing, but interesting.
