Firkin at Mekong on 05/18/2011 as Oak Aged Mandolin. Hazy amber body with a thin white head. Big diacetyl aroma with a caramel background and a touch of sherry. Big buttery and somewhat cidery flavor with some caramel and sherry. Medium body with moderately high carbonation.

Draft at the brewpub. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a thin frothy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of big whiskey notes, vanilla, apples, other mild fruits, booze. The taste is big whiskey notes, wood, pale malt, vanilla and an herbal finish. Medium bodied, hot, and the barrel character strips out most of the base beer’s character.
