The year is 1999; you're at your local community college, you're smoking Parliament Lights and drinking a $2 bomber of Quake Chocolate Cream Ale in the quad when you see your pocket start to flicker, it's your sick new Nokia 8210 with a clear cover, and dancing backlight LEDs flashing along to the Aha Take On Me ringtone you just paid 99¢ for from Pac Bell. Little did you know that 23 years later, you would use those 5 seconds in tasting notes on a beer with absolutely nothing to do with it other than chocolate and a low-hanging pun. Cake On Me is a supercharged Imperial Brown Ale made with cocoa powder, chocolate, and cocoa nibs and aged in Blanton's bourbon barrels, that is as strong as chocolatini, and tastes like someone threw a chocolate cherry cake in a blender with some bourbon and Snackwells devils food cookies. Not overly sweet like most rocket-fuel dessert-inspired barrel-aged beers, Cake On Me retains loads of body and mouthfeel while remaining relatively smooth to drink, or at least as smooth as one could hope for in a 15% barrel-aged chocolate imperial brown ale.
