Can from the Black Toad. Appearance - amber to brown. Fluffy off-white head. Nose - caramel, bread, earthy and root vegetable. Taste - caramel, burnt toffee, malt loaf and hazelnut. Palate - close to medium bodied, creamy middle and roasty finish. Overall - a decent example of the style.

Cask at Old Harkers Arms, Chester. Pours a bright copper with a medium sized foamy almost white head and good lacing. The aroma is mainly . malts with hints of porridge. Malts again to the fore in the mouth where it is slightly sweet overall, but with some underlying bitterness, Flavours too of nuts and oranges with hints of floral hops and rye . Finish is more bitter and slightly dry. This is decent.
