Ørbæk Hvidtøl is brewed based on the old traditions that date back to 1906, when the brewery first started making beer. At that time, the brewery made white beer in 5 liter picket bottles for the local population, who were mainly farmers at the time. This beer was dark, as a result of the malt being dried by burning in the keg. This resulted in a toasted, burnt and smoky taste in the beer and a high sweetness. The beer was also low in alcohol percentage, which meant that the farmers could drink it without being particularly affected. Ørbæk Hvidtøl is a product of this history, and is therefore the most original in taste in our range. It does not have a particularly high alcohol percentage, but it does have a high nutritional content with notes of licorice, smoke, chocolate and coffee as a consequence of a hard roasting of the malt.

75cl bottle. Vaasa May tasting.
Poured dark brown in color.
Sweet malt, wort, kvass/kotikalja like. Still, the drinkability does not suffer from the sweetness.

75 cl bottle. 1.8% pours very dark brown, with a very small to nonexistant head. aroma is metallic, slightly caramelly, slightly bitter nutty. flavor is sweet malty, sweet caramelly, bitter nutty, brown sugar, palate is thin, compared to even discount hvidtøl, this one is boring, thin and sort of off, with the nutty bitterness that doesn't really fit in anywhere. It is a bit confusing, cause ørbæk usually makes quite good fullbodied craft beer, and i had expected something that was a bit better than the cheaper supermarket alternatives. It is the same, probably worse.

Bottle 75 cl. Pours dark brown - almost black - with a creamy, beige head. Sweet molasses and malts in the nose, but pleasantly low in diacetyl compared to so many other beers of the style. Fairly light in body, sweetish malty - malt bonbons. Heavy sweetness but never sticky. A surprisingly well made new example of this old, traditional style. 261216
