2025 bottle. Pours near black with a brown head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has strong dark grains and rye with a growing roast and a bit of dark chocolate underlying. Flavor has dark grains and roast with a bit of rye and bourbon/molasses that grow through the finish.
Lots of creamy vanilla and chocolate and rye. Molasses galore and almost fruity notes too

Bottle purchased in November 2023 on a trip to Disney. Enjoyed in May 2025. Deep black with big brown head. Aroma of treacle, vanilla, barrel, booze and chocolate. Flavor is massive booze and chocolate. Bakers chocolate and powdered chocolate on the flavor. Viscous and velvety mouthfeel. Great!

Draft. Blackish beer with a dark tan head. Dried fruit and light bourbon aroma. Dried fruit and toffee flavor with light bourbon and citrus bind. Fuller bodied. Dried fruit and citrus rind linger with toffee, light bourbon, and light chocolate.

[2023] 500mL bottle. Pours black with a very thin tan head. Tons of rye and molasses, dark sugars, and hefty bourbon barrels on the nose. Flavour has a rich roasty character, rye, thick molasses, plenty of bourbon barrels. Super rich and well-integrated. Fantastic.

2023 version in crowler from Half Time, Mamaroneck NY (Aug 2024). Opaque dark brown with a small frothy milk chocolate colored head, boozy chocolate aroma, low carbonation, initially sweet dark chocolate-rum taste that turns medium bitter, alcohol undertones, smooth body, long medium bitter chocolatey finish. It's like a boozy chocolate drink!

Coffee stout brewed with rye and aged in bourbon barrels, by this – understandably – hugely popular American craft brewery. Bomber from Beerdome shared with Craftmember and Goedele. Mocha-beige, thinnish, open and dissolving head on a pitch black robe. Complex nose of chocolate liqueur, Belgian chocolates, almond, bourbon, prominent vanilla-scenting oak wood, amaretto, hazelnut purée, golden raisins, walnut oil, black peppercorns, touch liquorice. Densely sweet, clean and focused onset, candied fig, yellow raisin and candied pear with a touch of blackberry coulis – not quite as sugary as other big stouts I had from this brewery, though still outspokenly sweet; softish carb, very full and oily, near to syrupy mouthfeel, layers of hazelnut, coffee cream, milk chocolate, toffee and eventually cappuccino filling the mouth, with the rye adding a background grey-brown bread spiciness and syrupiness. The bourbon comes up strong after that, along with a wealth of vanilla-like oak wood; the alcohol becomes a bit peppery and hot in the end, but lovely caramelly and vanillin-like bourbon flavours linger afterwards – pairing well with the dark, sweet, chocolatey malt core. Perhaps just a tad too sticky and boozy for me personally, but definitely complex and tasty (though for such a hefty price, I guess I was expecting something even bigger, maybe…).
