(Dark Edition) Brewed for survival. Stowaway is a strong, full bodied, deep honey coloured antarctic ale that celebrates the exploits of Perce Blackborow, a Welsh Sailor who stowed away on Ernest Shackleton's ship Endurance during the ill-fated 1914-17 Antartic expedition. Despite losing all the toes in his left foot to frostbite, Blackborow survived and returned home to Newport a hero where he lived out the rest of his day's. He was awarded the Bronze Polar Medal for his service on the expedition.

Bottle shared by Grumbo. Aroma is smokey, dark fruits, coffee, chocolate, woody and nutty. Very good body and minimal carbonation. Very nice bitter sweet finish.

28/6/2024. Bottle from Anglo-Oregon Brewery, Newport. 9.2% abv. Pours clear chestnut brown with almost no head. Disappointing pour. Aroma is nutty, toffee, bready, cooking chocolate, fruit cake, smoky earthy notes. Medium sweetness, moderate roasted bitterness. Quite full bodied, smooth, soft carbonation. Enjoyed the taste.
