ABOUT THE BEER:
Mittelkinder Kolsch is top-fermented like an ale and uses ale yeast, but it’s conditioned at cold temps for a relatively lengthy duration like a lager, which brings interesting flavors out of the ale yeast. Additionally, the grain bill for this recipe is largely pilsener malt. So, if you’re an ale lover, a lager lover, or a pilsner lover, come try Mittelkinder. The flavors are light but we think you’ll find incredible complexity in this beer.

Mittelkinder is the German word for “middle children”, and we chose this name because kolsch is a wonderful beer style that lands somewhere in between an ale and a lager (and is completely misunderstood and deserves way more attention). (And Amanda is a middle child.)

13/6/2024. Can shared by Colin, cheers. Pours clear pale gold with a small frothy white head. Aroma is fruity, grainy, citrus, malt, grass, bready, touch of bubblegum. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness, light tartness. Moderate body, average carbonation. Quite likeable.

Can at home, big thanks to Toby for the gift, 29/05/24. Clear golden with a white cap that thins to a swirl. Nose is pale malts, cereals, corn husk, stewed fruits, light breads. Taste comprises grass, hedgerow, cereals, corn, bread crusts, biscuit, light herb. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Tidy enough logger style bier if a little on the sweet side.
