Cask at The Moon under Water on Leicester square. Pours dark brown with orange glints and a light tan head. Aroma suggests floral and chocolate. Med body. There’s a definite dark malt aspect and some chocolate. And it’s rather hoppy and bitter. Quite smooth. Pretty tasty. bitter finish.

Cask at Victoria Station JDW, 15/04/13. Opaque dark mahogony brown with a mid sized frothy beige head that stays for the show. Nose is dark malt, pine, light smoke, hops, hints of bitter grapefruit and orange. Taste comprises light tropical fruits, hint of chocolate, brown sugar, hops. Medium bodied with soft carbonation, dry in the finish with light hop bitterness. I enjoyed this one, one of the better of the festival - a good stab at a lowish ABV black IPA!

Black with a creamy head and evidence of roasted malts in its taste but also a high fruitiness. It has a hoppy aroma.

Cask at willow walk spoons. It pours deep ruby with a medium beige head. The nose is earth, light roast, toast, coffee grinds and bitter chocolate. The taste is roasted malt, toast, burnt earth, decent bitterness, dark fruit and light peppee with a dry, roasty finish . Light-medium body and soft carbonation. Pretty flavoursome for the percentage. Nice.

Cask at the Willow Walk, JDW - London. Pours clear brown with a fine, tan foam head. Toasty pine aroma. Light sweet flavor with toasty bread, some pine and earth, light dirty grass, toasted sugars, brown bread. Light bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Very mellow resinous toasted pine to finish, some toasted brown bread sweetness, subtle ripe citrus. Very drinkable, if not the most exciting beer ever.

Cask @ Highlander Inn, Craigellachie
Very dark brown, lot of light through, thin tan head, little lacing
Aroma - light aroma of dark caramel malts, soft roast, hint of chocolate, light citrus hops
Taste - soft dark caramel malts, light chocolate, touch of citrus hops, soft roast, light bitter hops, bland for a black IPA...needs far more hops...dull and boring
Palate - soft carb, thin body, watery, light bitter roast palate. Finish of soft roasted malt, bitter chocolate, hint of fruit, very rapid - washes away from the mouth - rather bland
Overall - Not like other Black IPAs i’ve had - rather insipid and bland....needs more hops, more malt, just too thin and dull
