A crafted dark beer without the associated dry finish of a stout. Caramel and toffee notes from a blend of roasted malts combine with the heavily hopped flavour of a traditional IPA.

Keg at the Jerusalem Tavern - London. Pours clear brown with a thin, creamy off-white topping. Well toasted brown bread in the nose, with nips of coffee grounds, dry cocoa. Light-medium flavour with sugary dark malts, a little burnt caramel, chocolate, dark berries, raisins, bread, pine. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Finishes with a little ashy bitterness, some baking cocoa, mellow roast, more burnt pine, orange rind, dried berries. A serviceable CDA.

Appearance is very dark, nearly black, opaque, a half-finger foamy light brown head. Aroma- chocolate, caramel, biscuity malt, fruity hoppy hints, orange peel, trace of coffee. Taste- lots of dry roasty malt, bitter coffee, dark malts, hop bitterness, toffee, dry ashy finish, fairly full mouthfeel. Chewy lengthy aftertaste.
