Inquest is back for 2022. This year, Inquest has been brewed with a spree of dark malts for a rich base of chocolate and coffee-like character with hints of caramel and toffee. A tipple of Scottish inspiration comes in the form of a subtle peat smoked malt and an elevated alcohol content that provides a deeper flavour reminiscent of a scotch whisky. Finally, classic American modern hops impart an earthy flavour and fruity aroma notes that add a layer of complexity to the hefty malt backbone. You be the judge.

HOPS: US Centennial & Willamette
YEAST: American Ale Yeast

7/11/2022. Can from The Oak Barrel, Sydney enjoyed at Rydges. Pours black with a small beige head. Aroma of chocolate, toffee, roasted malt, coffee, light peat, mild whisky, hints of liquorice, treacle, chocolate cake and plum pudding. Moderate sweetness and medium roasted bitterness, with subtle peaty woody notes. Full bodied, very smooth, low carbonation. I’m not a heavy peated beer fan, so for me this one is pitched very well.

I nice beer but not quite a great one. Aromas of chocolate, cream, spice and peat. The pine and grapefruit in the mouth do more to undermine the sweet stout flavours than to balance them.
