American Porter with a creamy flavor. Hints of chocolate and balanced mild hop bitterness through the finish compliment a roasty, full flavor with notes of coffee and very subtle smoke.

Black color with creamy head. This beer doesn’t require a complex description: it has a light cheesy and yeasty aroma with the dark malts; the flavor of chocolate and roasted malts balance, with a hint of coffee, no excessive roastiness, and correct bitterness; not dry, it has a minimal residual sweetness. In other words, this is a very well brewed Porter!
Little, but elegant.

Pours clear dark brown with a fleeting off-white head. Very little aroma. Slightly roasted malts. The flavor is slightly bitter, very little sweetness or complexity. A touch of sourness in the finish. Ok, but I’m not too impressed.

Bomber from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours very brown/black with a transient tan head. Aroma is sorta smokey chocolate. Full bodied. Smokey it is, but it is still very chocolate. Pretty smooth. Really outstanding.

Dark chocolate and charcoal nose. Dark mahogany, medium beige, some lacing head. Charcoal and dry raisins. Ends ashy. Solid offering, but doesn’t stand out. Pretty good value for the price.

Bomber from Total Wine, Richmond, VA. Pours a dark brown color with a thin creamy tan head. Average head retention and lacing. Aroma of chocolate, faint roasty notes and a bit of a milky note. The taste is roasted malts, chocolate, faintly hoppy finish. Medium bodied.

Bomber poured into English pint. Pours almost impervious black; when held up to the light, the beer reveals itself to be a dark, dark brown with ruby red highlights. Has a medium beige head that recedes pretty quick, leaving a light skiff and collar of foam. Aroma is strong in coffee (damn, I love that smell in a dark beer), campfire smoke, earth, caramel. Taste is sweet and a little sour; smoky. Only a little bit of bitterness. Fairly high carbonation for this style, creamy mouthfeel, medium bodied. A very nice straight porter.

12oz shorty bottle. Red-black color, with semi-translucent stained-glass edges. Minimal fading fading head. Chocolaty aroma with a hint of earthy bitterness. Creamy and roasty mouthfeel with some mild crispness up front. Finishes with a slightly chocolate bitterness laced with hoppy greenness. Pretty standard in most respects, with a touch of extra hops West Coast style.

Bomber pours deep darkness with brown edges and thin mocha head. The aroma has an assertive smoke note (that was unexpected to me) to go along with hints of molasses, some chocolate, burnt malts and a bit of wood. Wow, these notes go nicely together. Smells of yum. The taste feels thin but brings in persistent mild smokiness with some burnt malts, roasted malts and a mild astringent malt drying sensation. Nice mildly smoky interpretation. I wasn’t expecting it to be this tasty.

Bottle: Dark brown pour with a medium tan head. Nose is roasted malt, cocoa, and mocha. Taste is heavy with roasted malt, coffee, bittersweet chocolate. A little sour in the tail with coffee and bitters. Thanks BuckDich.
