Our award-winning Porter bridges the gap between malty brown ales and heavily roasted stouts. Notes of chocolate, coffee and roasted barley are offset with just a slight hop bitterness. Enjoy any time of the year.

So glad to have found the notes on this one.
Most of the time, this was poured into a pint glass but I have also had it in a mug sometimes. There wasn’t any noticeable differences.
The appearance was a gentle hazy dark brown color with a slight edge leaning towards black. The head was about a finger’s worth of white to off white level foaminess. There was an ample amount of foaminess.
The smell had a nice roasty coffee to a fairly decent dried cocoa powder aroma embracing an eloquent yet light bitter to sweet goodness all around.
The taste was mainly sweet but had enough kick from roasted coffee notes. The aftertaste was mildly sweet and enticingly bitter to lead to dry light coffee finish.
On the palate, this one sat right at a medium on the body with a pretty good sessionability about it. The carbonation was right on par for the Porter style.
Overall, when I lived in Michigan years ago, this was almost always a go to of having after a nice cool evening salmon fishing trip in Autumn. This more than solid brew makes me miss Michigan and the great fishing I was able to partake in.

Pours black into a shaker. Mocha head with excellent retention recedes leaving trailing sheets. Dark smoky mocha aromas. Dry with sweet chocolate upfront turning to mild smoke before the lasting espresso finish.

Bottle. Better Beer Of The Month Club. Dark brown to black with a beige head. Pleasant roasty aroma with coffee and a bit of dark chocolate. Nice roasty flavor, bittersweet, with some coffee and a bitterish finish, slightly burnt and ashy. Medium-bodied. Nice.

12 ounce bottle. Dark brown color topped by a small tan head. Rich roasted malt aroma is reminiscent of freshly brewed spent coffee grounds. Upfront, flavor is mostly dark roasted malt, bittersweet dark cocoa and licorice. Mid taste has a light smoky complex malt flavor. Finish is cloying sweet malt with light hop notes. Very drinkable and tasty.

Dark Brown, Huge Bubbly Foam Head, Leaves lots of Lacing. Light Roasted Aroma. Chocolate, coffee, toasted, creamy malt finish. Slightly thinner than anticipated. While it was good, rather solid brew, not sure if it is worth the high score and praises.

Great robust aroma. Pungent and musky malt. Pours dark brown with pretty creamy head, some lacing. Aroma of coffee and lots of dark chocolate. Some smoke here as well. Taste is bitter and slightly sour. Carbonation slightly below average, consistency thicker than average. Bottle from brewpub.

Got 12 oz. bottle in a trade with Queenholly. Thin tan head on a deep brown liquid. Nose is roasted barley, malt and light chocolate. Flavor is much the same with some light hints of coffee creeping in on the finish. Texture had a light char or ash. Really nice roasted malts in this one. Very tasty and a nice offering from Bells.

Bottle pour to pint. Not as full-bodied as I expected. I found the flavors a bit weak, but still a very good beer.
