Once upon a time a man walked into a bar where a friend of ours was tending the taps. He tried to order an Eagle Claw Fist, but got it wrong and asked for an Evil Crawfish. When we heard the story, after much laughter, we knew one day we’d make the beer. Finally, here it is, built off of ECF, but cleaner, meaner, less bitter, and dry-hopped with Citra, Simcoe, Mosaic and Nelson Sauvin.

Draft at Churchkey. Hazy reddish amber color, off white head. Aroma of earthy stone fruit. Taste has white pepper, dust, summer fruit. Tasty.

Pours mahogany into a tulip. Cream head with good retention recedes leaving spider lacing. Dark caramel and grapefruit aromas. Dark caramel and mild citrus upfront turning to hot resin in the lasting finish.

22 oz. bottle, purchased at 7-11, Kittery ME. The pour is a dirty, deep amber color with white head that vanished quickly. Aroma is pine hops dripping is caramel and toffee notes. Maybe a mild citrus hint with earthy/ dirty caramel

The flavor is thick with caramel and toffee. The body is medium in character with a sticky, syrupy texture. Light citrus, light grass and a good amount of pine that tries to cut through the thick sticky caramel. Honestly, the bitterness is here but it is way too sweet. Not the kind of imperial IPA I reach for when I want the style. The one nice thing is it didn’t drink like it was 9%.

Pencil shavings and grapefruit nose. Clear tea, medium sticky yellow head. Orange and grapefruit, subtle toffee underneath and in the finish. Full body, soft carbonation, chewy and resinous. Fruitier than expected, but nice balance and transitions.

Bomber from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours dark sort of reddish copper with a creamy light tan head. Aroma seems piney, winey, fruity. Lots of hop confusing my analytical capabilities. Med + or nearly full body. Flavor is winey, fruity, citrus, arguably floral. The malt backbone is really firm. Quite tasty, finishing balanced IMHO. Good stuff.

Some light citrus and lightly caramelized malt. Pours amber with good head and lacing. Light bitter finish with touch of tang and swetness. Easy drinking, well balanced. Tap at Brookland Pint.
