The name Kölsch comes from Cologne (Köln), a cultural hub located on the Rhine River in western Germany. Today the name is also a beer style that has found its way into the craft beer scene worldwide. Kölsch is a light and refreshing ale-lager hybrid, perfect for the hot, humidity of the tropics.

Dry, crispy, light, subtly aromatic, and oh-so-chuggable, Canard Kölsch is a brilliantly clear pale golden beer, with a balance of malt, fruit, and hop character. Our Kölsch’s first impression might be malty sweet, and yet it finishes on a crisp, rounded palate. It is low in bitterness and residual sweetness. Its high carbonation carries with it the aromas of malt grains and honey flowers, oddly reminiscent of sweet candy.

Tap, Beer Brothers, Ubud. Clear golden, medium creamy white head. Quite grassy and slight cellar nose, wet grass. Medium bitterness, slight soury cellar feel. Mild aftertaste. Light and fresh. A bit on the sour side, but refreshing.

Draft at the Legian brewery taproom. Poured a slightly unclear golden colour with a lasting frothy white head. The aroma is biscuit malt, light caramel. The flavour is moderate bitter, with a fresh, crisp, malt, light toffee, light herbal, woody hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.
