Cold brew coffee, milk sugar and a huge amount of oats almost makes this beer a justifiable alternative to breakfast. You Won’t Believe It’s Not A Dark Beer!

On tap at the Gryphon, Bristol 7/2/2017. Deep gold, with a slight, off-white, head. Coffee and dark chocolate notes, slightly toasty malts, leafy hops and a pleasantly dry finish. Enjoyable.

Keg at the Blue Moon Cambridge. Cloudy beyond belief. Brownish gold with some filmy white head. Smells of freshly made caramel with an extra hit of vanilla. Taste is an artisan coffee with a dollop of heated sweet milk. Considerable bitterness in the finish with coffee oils and paper filter dryness. Well played.

Keg @ Drink? Hebden Bridge. Deep amber with a small head. Grainy chocolate notes are abundant in its aroma and taste.

Can (7.4% ABV) from Drinkmonger. Hazy amber body with a thick off-white head. Steady carbonation. Patchy lacing. Aroma of rust, coffee and white pepper. Flavour of brown bread and instant coffee. Medium body with a watery texture. Soft fizz. Not at all what I was expecting. It doesn’t look or taste anything like a Stout. A strange beer.

330ml can [7.4% abv]. Hazy, dark amber colour with average, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting and lacing, off-white to beige head. Coffee, cappuccino, mocha and white coffee aroma, hints of instant coffee granulate, sweet-ish overtones. Taste is moderately sweet, notes of coffee, intant coffee, coffee bitterness in the background, bitter hoppy overtones with a minimally fruity touch of red berries.

33cl Can from Uiltje Taproom. Clear golden orange colour, white head. Aroma of malts, coffee, some hop. Flavour is medium sweet, malty, bread, mostly coffee, firm bitterness, hint of the lactose sweetness. Light to medium bodied. Nice, but to call this a stout is a far stretch imho.

Can at home in London - picked up at Royal Mile Whiskies, Bloomsbury. Pours unclear orange-copper with a creamy, off-white head. The nose holds bready malts, a hint of toast and toffee, impressions of coffee and dry cocoa. Medium sweet flavour with chewy, bready and lightly toasted malts, some further cocoa character, a little bitter coffee, touches of ripening citrus, earth. Medium bodied with oily texture and average carbonation. Finishes with a little boozy warmth, more coffee, toasted sugars, flourishes of bittersweet cocoa that seem to not come from roasted malts. It is certainly and interesting and fairly fun beer. The beer calls itself a ’white stout’, which I suppose is what it is. Overall, it drinks pretty good, so I’m happy.

Can. Nose is smoke, chocolate, oats, lactose, sweet smoke. Apperance, is a hazy orange - I am not sure it works for me - it just doesn’t match the nose or taste. Taste is pronounced smoke (a little Innis and Gunn?), coffee, a marked hop bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeel is slick. Others clearly like this, but I found it disjointed, and synthetic tasting.
