A light amber harvest ale brought back to life from from Phipps’ 19th century, leather bound brewer’s books. A cunning combination of Kent hops rule the taste buds over Maris Otter, Pale Ale and Crystal malts. At 1036 OG this brew comes from the top end of a range of beers designed for thirst quenching following a hard day’s work in field or factory. Diamond Ales were the original Pickering Phipps bright and sparkling beers which were developed in the early 1860s as the craze for Burton style bitters swept away dark, heavy porters, a link with the company’s roots in rural Towcester.

Cask at the star inn near northhampton. A clear orange amber coloured pour with a lasting loose white head. Aroma is nutty grains, light grassy hop, hedgerown, light toffee. Flavour is composed of earthy nutty malts, some dried fruit, apple, raisin, grassy hop. Not bad at all. Palate is semi sweet, light grains, decent cask condition.

A quite decent and easy drinkable bitter. Not so dull as many other.
Clear golden color with a fine white head. Solid lacing. Looks good. Ok intensity in the aroma. Medium (-) body and an ok balance between sweetness and bitterness. Malty, herbal and mild fruity flavor.
