The Amarillo variety grew from the humblest of roots. It was discovered in a ditch, bordering a hop yard, in Toppenish, Washington. Named by workers for its homely yellow color, the variety was very nearly lost to history. Lucky for us, the supple aromatics of grapefruit, peach and melon were not lost on early discoverers. Seemingly overnight, Amarillo became one of the top ten varieties utilized by the craft brewing industry. Now, for the very first time, Amarillo is being cultivated on Oregonian soil by Crosby Farms.

On tap at Belmont Station, pours a clear yellow with a small white head. Aroma brings out loads of dank hops upfront, along with melons and cantaloupe. Flavour is much the same, with tons of dank piney hops and the aforementioned tropical fruitiness. Fairly aggressive but not harsh in any way - strikes me as more of an IPA. Excellent.
