What the Fruit?

Matchless Brewing in Tumwater, Washington, United States 🇺🇸

IPA - New England / Hazy Regular
Score
7.29
ABV: 6.2% IBU: - Ticks: 3
This IPA contains no fruit or juice! For this round we went with the combined ale strains from the defunct Whitbred Brewery in England. Together they dry the beer out while retaining a soft round mouthfeel providing a light tart citrus character of their own. El Dorado and Topaz hops' tropical, petrol and candy characters bring up the beers brightness. It's all held together by Copeland pils malt, flaked wheat and barley, and a pinch of Caramunich2. Although there is no fruit in this hoppy beer, as usual, it will have you saying What The Fruit?

Can from The Brewmaster's Taproom. Unclear golden pour, thin white head. Soft tropical hop aroma. Mango, apricot, a little pineapple. Drinks smooth and soft, thins out a bit on the kind of abrupt close. Fairly sweet, not a ton of bitterness. Slightly sticky. Tasty, but not quite all the way there.

On tap at Apex, pours an opaque cloudy peachy yellow with a medium white head. Aroma brings out lots of tropical stone fruits, pith, and a resinous hops. Flavour is juicy as hell, with tropical stone fruits, resinous hops, and a wonderfully fruity juiciness. So juicy and drinkable. Wonderful.

16 oz can poured. These guys have quickly become one of my favorite local brewers. Them, along with another brewery pretty far north, I feel like would both strive with a Seattle taproom. The IPAs are incredible, and the other beers aren't left behind. What i love most about these Matchless beers is the unique story behind a lot of them. Creative brewing processes, or yeast strains. Just adds to the fun and enjoyment of the beer. This IPA fits in well with their already extraordinary list of stellar hoppy beers. Hazy golden yellow pour. A ton of tropical fruit going on. Pineapple. A creamy, oat like background. A clear pils malt, that works great with this beer. An excellent IPA. Hope this one sticks around in their lineup.
