(Bottle) Dark amber colour with big, lasting, tan head. Malty, hoppy nose with caramel, treacle-toffee, orange, grapefruit, nuts and some tropical fruit (pineapple, passion-fruit). Malty, hoppy taste with notes of caramel, nuts, grapefruit, pineapple, citrus and a generous citric, piney bitterness in the finish. Medium body, quite dry. Good malt, generous hops, tasty and well balanced, but lacking some wow factor. Quite nice.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, best before 2/2/2018. Pours slightly hazy deep ruby red, light copper/brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy cream colored head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, apricot, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper/pine, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness/roast, herbal, floral, grass, and toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/fruity hops and dark/bready/light roast malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, apricot, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper/pine, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness/roast, herbal, floral, grass, and toasted earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel, herbal, grassy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, apricot, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper/pine, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, roast, herbal, floral, grass, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity hops and dark/bready/light roast malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, fairly sticky, and slightly chalky/resinous balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 6.4%. Overall this is a delicious red IPA. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity hops and dark/bready/light roast malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink, with the mellowly bitter/drying finish. Nicely juicy fruity/citrus hop complexity, balanced crystal/Munich/light roasted malts. Never overly sweet/heavy with adequate dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and great style example.

355ml bottle. Pours dark copper orange with a smooth head. Aroma of biscuity and caramely malts, hints of grassy hops. Taste is caramely, biscuity and sweetish with hints of grass and herbal notes. Finish is sweetish, biscuity and slightly stuffy with hints of herbal hoppiness. A bit stuffy.

Draft pour pint at Hop and Hound, presented on nitro. A clean reddish copper pour with a thick cream head and lacing. Malt forward aroma. Flavor is a little warming, toasty, caramel. Quite a bit of metallic notes in the flavor as well. Creamy, and overall a nice winter beer here. Pretty good.

Bottle pour into shaker pint glass from Cigarette City. Appearance is clear reddish-brown with effervescent sparkle, 1/2 finger-width creamy beige head with nice retention and lots of sudsy lacing. Aroma is bready malt base with citrus, light tropical fruit hops. Taste is initial caramel/malt hit, followed by the citrus and tropical fruit. Palate is medium bodied with creamy texture, soft-to-average carbonation, and mostly sweet finish like taste. Overall, based on other reviews was expecting something pretty terrible but this wasn’t bad at all. Not getting any pine, and this would be better classified as a pale ale but there’s at least a little something interesting going on.
