12 oz. bottle purchased at Oliver’s Beverage Center, Albany, NY. The stamp on the bottle neck reads: bottled on 12/30/12. Color is black with thin tan head, no lace. Nose is French press coffee and deep roasted barley. Flavor is old coffee and cream, semi-sweet chocolate and roasted barley. Palate is rich and thick with a sweet taste and very little coffee bitterness. After looking at the ratings, I’m not sure why it scores so low. A bit one dimensional but still a nice coffee stout that has good drinkability or…. Maybe I like coffee brews too much.

Purple-black with a short, but thick brown head. Aroma is cream, chocolate, vanilla, sweet coffee. Flavour is sweet vanilla /chocolate with a gentle coffee bitter. Very light, but tasty.

Received in trade from bluewolf17, thanks for the opportunity! Pours a solid black color with a small bubbly tan head that dissipates rather quickly. Smells of slightly acrid coffee with a hint of caramel, but little else. The flavor is an assault of java with a roasty malt edge. Light burnt caramel and dark chocolate malts attempt to provide some balance but aren’t strong enough to stand up to the unrelenting coffee bean. Medium to thin body with a light carbonation and a slick almost ashy mouthfeel. Decent enough coffee bomb, but really could use a bit more body and sweetness to help stand up to the acrid and thinning effects of the coffee.

From a 12 oz bottle shared at home. Quite a few years of age on this bottle. Bourbon-like nose. Flavors are quite muted, with some toffee. Coffee flavors noticeably absent. Need to try this one fresh.

Aroma: The nose is all coffee and roasted malts, the sweetness develops with warmth
Appearance: It pours an opaque black color with a small brown head and basically no lace
Flavor: Tastes roasty, pretty much all coffee and roasted malts, the sweetness come through on the finish
Palate: It has an unimpressive body, thin and light for style, a lively carbonation and a rather short duration
Overall Impression: This is a decent, but not great, coffee stout. There is a good amount of roast and coffee here, but there is little else here. The wateriness of the mouthfeel is probably the biggest disappointment here, but the beer still isn't bad overall.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of Cavie. Black appearance with a brown head. Roasty coffee, dark chocolate malty nose. Very roasty, espresso, dark chocolate malty flavor reminds me a lot like many of the Scandinavian coffee stouts. Quite roasty and not all the smooth. Bleh.

Whole Foods Market, DC sixer ($10): Pours a black color with a head that completely disappears. Aroma is surprisingly of coffee and chocolate malts. Taste is much in the same line. I don’t think that it is well balanced particularly or even that good. Somewhat sweet, but not exceedingly so. I agree it is unforgettable, but not exactly in a good way.

Bottle, smallish head, extremely dark brown and almost completly opaque with just a touch of lighter coloured taints, aroma of coffee and earth, flavour of coffee and earth withg a bready sourness. Drinkable but not too exciting.
