Bottle. Beer of the month club. Black-colored with a big bubbly beige head. Aroma of coffee beans, a bit vegetal, roasted grains, nutty notes and light fruity hints. Sweetish-sourish flavor, with roasted malt, lactic notes, fruits and some coffee. Finishes drier. Light to medium-bodied. I think this one’s a bit off - sourish and a bit unpleasant, but not all bad.

Purchased at Breeze-Thru in Milwaukee, WI; consumed prior to watching the Bears/Seahawks playoff game. Appearance is pure black with a thin tan head that quickly dissipates. Aroma very nice, dominated by coffee and roasted malts with a bit of sweetness and chocolate. Taste is pretty much coffee with a rich backing of chocolate but it’s not really a rich brew. Decent carbonation, a little thinner than what I would prefer. Not a bad beer but I feel they could’ve done better by having it a tad bit richer.

The pour produces a small tan head over an opaque black body. Faint coffee and malt aroma. Bitter flavor with a touch of licorice. Sweet, syrupy.

The last bottle of a wretched eight-bottle sampler pack where almost everything so far has been infected. No gushing so that is a good sign, but we shall see. Pours with a large, creamy brown head and a near black body. Aroma of coffee, minerals, toasted, smoke, newspapers and maybe a bit of sourness lurking (god I hope not). Quite acidic and obviously infected, but not full blown like the Snake Charmer. I can still drink this, but do not plan on finishing the bottle. Coffee, earthy, and quite lactic. They seem to have a real problem with this. Side of the bottle lists a Week 3 of February bottling date. Creamy carbonation. Ashy, tobacco, acid. Nope!

12 oz bottle-pours a dissipating brown head and black color. Aroma is dark fruit-some tart, chocolate/molasses-dark malt, secondary earthy hops. Taste is dark fruit-some tart, coffee/chocolate/molasses-dark malt, secondary earthy/chickory hops. Aggressive carbonation, porter like. Thanks jwc215 for sharing this.

Pour is a black with a small tan head. Aroma is a slight roast with some coffee. Flavor is again a nice roast with a slight coffee. Finish is kind of watery and there is not much body to this one. Its just ok but nothing to revisit.

Pours black with tan head. Aromas of burnt malts and coffee. There is much more coffee aroma than flavor. Roasted malt and chocolate flavors with not very coffee. Quite acidic. Medium body with mild carbonation. Unlike their commercial description, this beer is quite forgettable. Average at best.

12 oz bottle purchased at Metcalf Discount Liquors on 91st Street in Overland Park. Kansas. Bottled March wk4. Pour is clear black and ruby with a big and active 3 inch tan head. Head settles down fast with no lacing to speak of. Aroma of milky roasted coffee. Nice roasted malt also comes through. Taste is nice roasty affair, not to heavy on the coffee or the milky sweetness. There is also a cherry sweetness present. Nice quaffable stout. Palate is on the thin side for a stout, but allowed the roast to take front stage. Nice one.

Pours black with a dark-brown foam. Offers a light smell of coffee and roasted malts. I found it to be lacking this full coffee smell and flavour. Remidned me too much of the watered down coffee you get at yr local gas station. The beer remains very drinkable and enjoyable, but I was disappointed by the lack of punch it offered for a coffee stout. Not a bad attempt, but nothing that could compare to other offerings. Terrapin, Dieu du Ciel, Bell’s and Founders come to mind.
