On tap at Beachwood, Long Beach, August 2014. Black with a small tan head. Sweet with milk chocolate, coffee and some cocoa. The mouthfeel was creamy and the bitterness light. A pleasant "dessert beer" after the meal.

On tap at the brewpub. It pours a more or less black body, with a dark beige head on top. The aroma is roasted and chocolatey, coffee in the back. Some sweetness in the mouth, soft on the palate. Roasted malts, coffee and chocolate. Long roasted finish. Pretty decent this one. 130813

On tap at the source. Pours with a near pitch black hue with a tan head that lasts. Good lace. Aromas are roasty, lactose, leather, coffee creamer, chocolate, grainy, smooth, bready, light smoke, light dark fruit. Some coffee in the finish, a good amount of (what I’d guess) is roasted barley like grain character. Flavors are a bit more bitter than I was expecting, smokey, strong and slightly sharp roast character. Medium milk sugar flavors. Dry, leathery, light vanilla flavors. Moderate carbonation, full bodied. Drinks a bit bigger than 5.9%. Overall pretty tasty.
