Barleywine by its very nature is a challenge. Huge beers with bold strokes, complexities, & subtle notes. When approaching one, there can be but a single victor (and it's not always the drinker). With this sense of conflict in mind, we built this brew upon a robust bill of English Marris Otter, French Barbe Rouge hops, and a high gravity Scottish yeast strain. A warrior straddling the Channel with conquest on the mind, it seemed only right to commemorate this beer to William and his victory in 1066. While the rest of this beer yet slumbers in barrels, this variant is a blend of multiple interesting barrels: Brown Sugar Bourbon, Sea Salt ex Bourbon, and Widow Jane Rye. The result is a beer that is adjunct free, but bursting with complex and novel flavors. Salty, sweet, boozy with just a whisper of the courage needed to charge the hill at Hastings.
