We’re at a weird time at the moment – super sessionable crisp pale ales are very much reigning supreme, but we’re still making sure to champion the corner of the big boy IPA here at Polly’s. When we wrote the recipe for Beneath the Oak Tree, we wanted to go full on trademark Polly’s – high juice, mega haze, with just a little bit of bitterness to keep everything in check. On tap at Ebenezers, Crewe. Pours a murky chrome yellow with a small white head and good lacing. Aroma is mainly peaches. In the mouth there is an ugly metallic flavour, which ruins all other appreciation at the start. Eventually apricots come through as the main flavour, along with mango, and hints oif alcoholic strength. The finish is bitter in a traditional way, and not at all metallic. I wasn’t keen on this at all.
