A beer within the New Nordic beer project and at the same time a wink to the lovely historic sours of Germany. A Lactobacillus blueberry thirst quencher that brings that forest feeling to wherever you are. Jam!
Forget what the label says. The label is wrong. Even though this could be seen as a nordic version of a Berliner Wiesse the name on the label is wrong because sometimes shit happens. So, what is the beer called? Blåbärliner, playing on the Swedish words blå and bär which mean blue and berry. Why? Well because this beer is jam packen full of blueberries. Just like we like ’em. A beer within the New Nordic beer project.

Bottle. A refreshing but somewhat edgeless berliner that’s neither particulariy sour nor fruity. Nice enough!

Bottle. Deep reddish liquid with small to medium light pink head. Aroma of funk, sour cream, light blueberries, earth and dried fruit. Taste is dry and medium sour with notes of blueberries, funk and filmjölk. Light bodied with medium to high carbonation. Weird aroma, good otherwise.

Draft. A red with a thin pink head. The aroma has notes of bilberries, lacto, and malt. The flavor is acidic with notes of lacto, bilberries, and brett, leading to a tart finish.

Hazy deep red/ruby with a quickly dissipating pink foam, no lacings. Aroma is yeasted blueberries, yoghurt, minerals. Taste is medium sour with a discreet berry tone, yoghurt, dough, minerals. Light body, high carbo. Quite refreshing as expected, maybe not as much as the previous two in the series, also could have some more berry feel to it.

Deep red/ruby beer with a small pinkish head. Sourish fruity aroma of strawberry yoghurt. Fruity blueberry flavor, sourish, raisins, raspberries, some metal. Refreshing but still lacks in fruitiness.

Draught @ BBB. Pours deep bluish red with a frothy pinkish white head that leaves a small trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is slightly sour, slightly fruity and slightly malty with wheat crackers, cereal, dough, unflavoured yoghurt, lemon juice, hay and hints of lemon zest and bilberries. Taste is tiny sweet, sour, slightly fruity and slightly malty with wheat crackers, cereal, lemon juice, bilberries, hay, unflavoured yoghurt, lemon zest and hints of dough. Mouthfeel is dry, tart and light bodied. Finish is sour, tiny malty and slightly fruity with wheat crackers, lemon juice, bilberries, sour milk, hay and lemon zest. Not a huge fan of the malt bill but the bilberries make this good enough to be ok... --- Beer merged from original tick of Blåbärliner on 11 Jan 2015 at 21:46 - Score: 7. Original review text: Has developed nicely... Bilberries really shine now!
