After 18 months in a combination of brandy and bourbon barrels, the crew at Deschutes — along with their pals at Alesong — tasted this Imperial Brown Ale and deemed it ready to bottle.

Tasting Notes
Every nutty sip sings with unbridled booze and barrel character. Flavors of dark chocolate and a touch of Barleywine-like date and toffee erupt from each mouthful, coating the palate in decadent deliciousness.

Reviewed from notes.
Bottle to tulip.
Appearance: dark brown in color with a finger's worth of khaki foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light messy lace
Aroma: toasted nuts, dark chocolate, vanilla, woody/sweet barrel tones and a touch of dark fruits
Flavor: blends the prior noted aromas to a fine sweet to roasty and woody edged character; finishes dry, vanilla, woody/barrel and nutty
Texture: medium bodied, great sipper; some smoothness and light dry notes
Overall: I dig this imperial brown ale. Well worthy of returning to if I could.

Capped 500 from Tavour. Pours dark brown with a tan head that did strange things. Aroma of nuts, brandy and more. Med body. A little sweet and barely bitter. Flavor of brandy with malt, bourbon and nuts following along. Some oak and raisin/date as well. Very smooth. Quite tasty.

On tap at Deschutes - Portland, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma is complex, with loads of brandy and bourbon, followed by molasses, dark fruits and caramel. Flavour is extremely rich and strong, with loads of brandy barrels upfront, accentuated by a little bourbon, and dried dark fruits. Nothing subtle about this — intense barrels and dark fruits. Certainly not easy drinking but it's really well-put-together.
