Dark as the fertile Funen plough land – this is Valravn. Double brown, oatmeal stout – with intensity and muscle. The flavour is expressed as a blend of unfiltered purity and the Nordic whir of oats. Seasoned with organic, tasty chocolate malt with such fullness of body as to result in a strong beer – a beer that demonstrates character in every sip. In Valravn, we use organic chocolate available by the Danish chocolatier, Konnerup.

Bottle shared at Chris and Ruth’s pre-GBBF tasting 2015 - London. Pours clear brown with a tan cream head. The nose holds toasty bread, light toffee. Light sweet flavor, dusty, with some marshmallows and leathery fruits. Light bodied with average carbonation. Dry on the finish with some dried fruits, berries. So so.

Bottle. Pours opaque black with tiny brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, dark syrup, soy sauce and iron. Taste is light to medium sweet, light bitter, light acidic and faint salty. Body is oily with fizzy carbonation. Finish is long and balanced sweet and bitter with notes of malt, syrup, ammonium chloride, mint and thick soy sauce.

Bottle at ChrisOs Pre-GBBF. It pours clear deep red - brown with a small beige head. The nose is toasty, bitter - sweet, umami, liquorice, sweet chocolate and some meatiness. The taste is bitter - sweet, earthy roast, mild acidity, toasty, cocoa and meaty action with a short bitter - dry finish. Light body, high foamy carbonation and slightly watery mouth - feel. Not all that great.

Pre GBBF tasting as Chris and Ruth’s. Clear deep amber beer, small pale tan head. Palate is airy and semi dry. Modest fine carbonation. Tangy malts, some dark character, trace of chocolate. Something coffee - chicory. Dried fruits and a trace of paper. Okay.
