About three moons ago we asked Bebo from Third Moon Brewing if he'd like to make another silly Imperial Stout with us in time for the least-silly-most-scary day of the year: Halloween. How about something cereal-inspired?, Bebo asked. Sounds great, we exclaimed.

Our cereal-based stout uses cocoa and peanuts, offering sweet, roasty notes to this no-holds-barred chewy stout. A healthy dose of lactose accentuates the velvety body.

On tap at Bellwoods, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is dominated by intense peanuts and lactose, seeming like some sort of chocolatey, peanuty candy bar. Flavour is excessively sweet, with boatloads of lactose drowning out the peanuts and cocoa. A diabetes bomb here — why so sweet? There's not much complexity or depth, just lots of sweetness, followed by cocoa and peanuts, but without harmony or flavour depth. Not bad but far from great.

(473ml can from The Wheeled, Barrie ON) Pours black with a small pale brown head and spotty lace. Aroma is sweet candied peanuts, confectionery chocolate, dark sugar syrup, sweet cream, soft roast. Flavour is sweet and sugary, crushed peanuts, chocolate candy (Reese's Pieces feel), dark sugar syrup, some roast acidity, bit of candied orange or other fruitiness which is a little odd, limited bitterness but a little dusty cacao, sweet through the finish which tails off a little due to the roast acidity. Light bodied for style, a little thin, very soft carbonation. Decent but lacking the weight to hold up the adjuncts, a higher ABV and a little more malt 'stuffing' is needed. Don't really get any cereal vibes from it either TBH.
