After rocking the scene of the Brussels Beer Fest 2018, we decided to come back with a new batch of that gorgeous oatmeal imperial stout brewed with coffee. Once again, no compromises were made! We are proud to offer complete transparency regarding the sourcing of our products. We established a partnership with Mamé Noka, a human scale, fair trade coffee import buisness. Mamé Noka's working territory covers various equatorial areas, depending on the seasons: a short path to a long run. Every Whack brewing session will showcase a different coffee. For this edition we used the same coffee as for the original: a harvest from the Boyo Project in Cameroun.

Draught, 9% at Moder Lambic Fontainas. Good coffee aroma. Black colour. Big stable creamy light brown head. The flavour is roasted with notes of dark bread. Generous notes of coffee. A little sweetness to balance. Well-balanced and flavorful.

75cl Bottle, BXL 2018 version I guess, thanks Kermis! Black colour, dense creamy head. Aroma is still quite hoppy, floral, some roast, chocolate, hint of coffee. Flavour follows, lots of nice roasted and earthy chocolate notes, some coffee but it appears it's all mellowed out, very subtle but I like that, bitter, chocolate bitter finish. Full bodied, creamy mouthfeel. Good.

330ml bottle. Jet black colour with average to huge, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, beige head. Roasty, chocolately, dark malty aroma, notes of coffee, cocoa, a touch of cereals, oat flakes, nutty overtones. Taste is sweet, chocolately, roasty dark malty, notes of milk chocolate, coffee, cocoa, hints of cereals, oat flakes, a touch of treacle, nutty overtones. Foamy texture, prickly carbonation.

Flaska från Belgiuminabox. En ganska snäll stor stout med mjuka kaffearomer. Söt med torrare avslutning. Välgjort men kanske utan något extra. Gott iaf.

Coffee-flavoured oatmeal stout originally (2018) made for the BXL Beerfest bottle pack, now more widely available too; this rating concerns the 75 cl bottle from said pack, coming from tderoeck, cheers! Slow gusher, but completely manageable. Mousy, pale yellowish beige, medium thick, bit creamy head, very dark chocolate brown beer, as good as black in general looks but with bronze-mahogany hue. Aroma of coffee grounds and cold black coffee, dried figs, hard caramel, cloves, dry earth and dry forest floor, prunes, bitter chocolate, dry tea bags, soggy toast, walnuts, bayleaf, vague chlorine-like aspect. Restrainedly sweetish onset, some dried fig and old raisins, touch sourish underneath with soft carbonation; velvety mouthfeel thanks to the oats, but at the same time on the thin side as well for a stout of this strength. Hard-caramelly and bitter-chocolatey, nutty malt profile, earthy elements in the finish but not too explicitly so, bit leafy with lots of coffee grounds, lingering long and adding a coffee aroma retronasally (though only ‘dimly’ so); some warming alcohol ensues, gin-like, paired with a leafy but altogether mild hop bitterishness and some spicy phenols (cloves). Very ‘Belgian’ in its yeasty spiciness and earthiness as well as feeling a tad too thin, but decent enough flavour-wise. No Science has performed better at times, though.

Dark beige head, regular and rather stable over redbrown highlighted black beer. Coffee, chocolate & wood in the nose; later (warm) dark brown bread with chocolate spread, nutty, roast. Bitterish-roast, hint at alcohol in the finish. Again coffee (of course), Ersatz coffee, chocolate, roasted nuts and brown bread. Reasonably full-bodied, slick but to fluid to be chewy. Good carbonation, long lasting roasted flavours. Quite decent, nothing innovative. Then again, innovation is a problem for car manufacturers, no? Txs to Louis!

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to NewKen! Pours brown with a foamy tan head. Has moderate sweetness, strong roast character, earth, charred sugars, ash. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Lightly warming finish. Not bad.
