Let me hit you with a vocabulary word: GRIST: People celebrate many things during the winter months but Grist is the idol that all breweries universally recognize. Grist is the grain that has been separated from its chaff. Grist is the stuff that makes beer into beer. All hail Grist.
We’re unaccountably lucky to have secured almost 30 pounds of authentic American Chestnuts* for this Chestnut Porter. We roasted these beautiful nuts in the pizza oven upstairs (over an open fire, you might say), before dumping them into the mash. The chestnuts impart a smooth, creamy texture and mellow bitterness, perfectly balancing the toasty malt and Northwest hops.
Thanks for the Chestnuts, Bob.

On tap at Fort George - Lovell Taproom, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out medium roast and a touch of chestnuts. Flavour is medium roasty, with light chestnuts and bready malt. Dry and clean — the chestnuts aren't that noticeable. Just a clean dark malty beer. Solid.
