The Loyalist "Old English Ale"
At the end of American Revolutionary War, British subjects who remained loyal to the Crown had to return to England or find a different British colony to welcome them. In 1783, over 35,000 of these "Loyalists" fled to Nova Scotia, almost doubling the province's population, and we assume, their thirst for British beer.
We wanted to make a beer that was loyal to those who long for a taste of the British homeland. Ours is brewed in the tradition of a Yorkshire bitter, using classic English Fuggel hops and Nottingham ale yeast that augments the flavours of biscuit and grass with a dry, spicy finish.

I was able to try this beer on tap at Henry House in Halifax a few days ago with friends and family. The appearance was a shiny dark amber-brown body with a steady cover of taupe foam. I tasted toast, malt, a hint of red licorice and spice. Not bad, not great in the style.
